Ugo Bienvenu est un réalisateur, dessinateur et scénariste français né le 10 mai 1987, actif dans l’animation, la bande dessinée et le clip depuis le début des années 2010. Fils d’un diplomate, il passe son enfance au Guatemala, au Tchad et au Mexique, une trajectoire internationale qui nourrit un imaginaire ancré dans la science-fiction sociale et la dystopie. Son œuvre, qu’elle soit animée ou graphique, se distingue par un trait épuré, une esthétique rétro-futuriste et une réflexion constante sur la technologie, l’isolement et le lien humain.
Rentré en France à l’adolescence, Ugo Bienvenu intègre l’École Estienne en filière arts appliqués avant de rejoindre la section cinéma d’animation des Gobelins. Un séjour au California Institute of the Arts à Los Angeles en 2010 l’oriente vers l’animation expérimentale, et il poursuit sa formation à l’ENSAD dans le programme Image temps réel, puis au sein d’Animation sans frontières. À partir de 2010, Ugo Bienvenu réalise clips et courts-métrages, seul ou en collaboration avec Kevin Manach et Félix de Givry, ses films étant diffusés sur Arte et Canal+. Il signe en parallèle une série d’animation pour Marvel (Ant-Man) et fonde en 2018 son studio de production Remembers avec Félix de Givry. Auteur d’une dizaine de bandes dessinées publiées notamment chez Denoël Graphic, il s’impose aussi comme l’une des figures majeures de la BD de science-fiction francophone des années 2010, avec des ouvrages sélectionnés au Festival d’Angoulême et récompensés par la critique.
Parmi ses courts-métrages, L’entretien (2019, animation, coréalisé avec Félix de Givry pour la Troisième Scène de l’Opéra de Paris) constitue une étape formelle clé, alliant rigueur graphique et tension narrative. Son premier long-métrage d’animation, Arco (2025, science-fiction, 89 min), produit par son studio Remembers avec Natalie Portman et Sophie Mas en coproduction, est présenté en sélection officielle à Cannes en mai 2025, puis couronné du Cristal du long-métrage au Festival d’Annecy. Sorti en salles le 22 octobre 2025, il reçoit une presse très favorable, saluant l’animation fluide, la puissance esthétique et la dimension de fable contemporaine sur l’isolement technologique et l’espoir.
