Pedro Winter, connu sous le nom de scène Busy P, est un DJ, producteur et patron de label français, figure centrale de la scène électronique parisienne depuis le milieu des années 1990. Ancien manager de Daft Punk, il est surtout connu comme le fondateur du label Ed Banger Records, qui a révélé une génération d’artistes électro français au cours des années 2000. Son parcours s’inscrit dans la mouvance dite de la « French Touch », entre production, gestion d’artistes et identité visuelle affirmée.
Né Pierre Winter le 21 avril 1975 à Paris, Pedro Winter découvre la musique électronique en 1992 aux côtés de son frère Thomas, avant de commencer à mixer au What’s Up Bar et à organiser les soirées Hype aux Folies Pigalle, puis Smoker au Palace, avec David Guetta. En 1996, alors étudiant en droit, il rencontre Thomas Bangalter et Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, dont il devient le manager jusqu’en 2008. En 2002, Pedro Winter fonde la structure Headbangers Entertainment, à travers laquelle il gère également des artistes comme Cassius, Cosmo Vitelli ou DJ Mehdi. L’année suivante, il crée le label Ed Banger Records, qui publie d’abord le titre « Radar Rider » de Mr Flash avant de signer Justice, puis SebastiAn en 2004, ainsi qu’Uffie, DJ Mehdi, Mr Oizo, Breakbot et Myd. En 2008, il quitte la direction artistique de Daft Punk pour se consacrer pleinement à son label et à sa propre carrière sous le nom de Busy P.
Sur le plan musical, Busy P développe un style électro affirmé, marqué par des textures brutes et chic, empruntant à la house, au disco et au hip-hop. Il commence à publier ses propres productions en 2004 avec le maxi Limit Ed, puis enchaîne remixes et sorties ponctuelles, dont l’EP Rainbow Man en 2007. Son travail s’accompagne d’une identité graphique reconnaissable, portée notamment par le graphiste So Me, qui contribue à façonner l’esthétique du label Ed Banger, souvent associée à la vague dite « nu-rave ».
Après le succès international de Justice avec le titre « D.A.N.C.E. » en 2007, Ed Banger Records s’impose comme l’un des labels électro les plus influents de sa génération. Busy P poursuit en parallèle une activité de remixeur régulier, travaillant notamment sur des titres d’UNKLE, MGMT ou Drop the Lime, et publie en 2013 le maxi Still Busy, suivi en 2014 de la compilation Reworking Is Not a Crime. Pedro Winter signe également des musiques de film, dont la bande originale du skate-vidéo Gypsy Life en 2015, puis collabore avec Mayer Hawthorne sur l’EP Genie en 2017. En 2024, Pedro Winter est fait Officier des Arts et des Lettres par le ministère français de la Culture, reconnaissance de son rôle dans le rayonnement de la scène électronique française.

After Justice’s international breakthrough with « D.A.N.C.E. » in 2007, Ed Banger Records established itself as one of the most influential electro labels of its generation. Busy P continued working steadily as a remixer, reworking tracks by UNKLE, MGMT, and Drop the Lime, and released the Still Busy 12″ in 2013, followed by the remix collection Reworking Is Not a Crime in 2014. Pedro Winter also composed film music, including the soundtrack for the skate video Gypsy Life in 2015, and later collaborated with Mayer Hawthorne on the Genie EP in 2017. In 2024, Pedro Winter was named Officier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture, in recognition of his role in the rise of the French electronic music scene.
