There is, first, the night — that saturated red-and-blue urban night that belongs only to the clips of a generation born on the asphalt. « Mes potes » opens right there: young faces filmed up close, as if the camera sought less to tell a story than to capture an energy, a raw brotherhood. Deadi and San-Nom summon a collage of scenes that echo one another — cramped apartments bathed in colored light, car interiors where time seems suspended, bathrooms where the mirror doubles the silhouettes into an almost dreamlike image of the self.
The video for « Mes potes » works through accumulation rather than linear narrative: we move from a confined, almost suffocating interior to the open street, to the car driving through the dark — like a breath taken between confinement and freedom. This tension between closed space — the bedroom, the living room, the reflection — and the moving space of the night outside sketches an emotional geography: that of a group searching for its own territory, even if it means building it between four walls soaked in red and blue gels.
Visually, the choice leans toward an almost expressionist chromatism: the tones aren’t after realism but mood, that particular way contemporary French rap has of turning an ordinary setting — apartment, car, street — into an almost surreal scene, as if pulled from a collective dream. The friends themselves appear and reappear, sometimes blurred, sometimes tightly framed, in a fusion of bodies and glances that speaks of friendship without needing words: we are together, we film together, we exist together.
There’s no grand scenography here, no twist to the narrative — just this fidelity to the real, transfigured by light, this way of turning the everyday — a car, a mirror, a living room — into the stage of a Destiny written together. « Mes potes » is a film about presence, about what the collective has of the visceral when it films itself, with no artifice beyond color and night.
