Vald, alias Sullyvan, de son vrai nom Valentin Le Du, est un rappeur et parolier français né le 15 juillet 1992 à Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis). Figure singulière du rap français des années 2010, il s’impose par un univers à la fois absurde et mélancolique, une écriture protéiforme et un sens de la provocation qui le distinguent nettement de ses contemporains.
Découvrant le rap tardivement — vers quinze ans, en tombant sur Kery James — Vald commence à rapper à dix-sept ans, après un parcours scolaire atypique : baccalauréat scientifique, semestre d’études de médecine abandonné, licence mathématiques-informatique obtenue, puis école d’ingénieur du son. Il se constitue son propre home studio et produit ses premières mixtapes gratuites dès 2012 (NQNTMQMQMB, Cours de rattrapage). Remarqué par Tunisiano, il signe sur le label Mezoued Records pour ses deux premiers EP NQNT (2014) et NQNT 2 (2015), ce dernier classé premier des ventes numériques hebdomadaires en France. En 2019, il fonde son propre label indépendant, Echelon Music, sous lequel il publie notamment les compilations Echelon Vol. 1 (2019) et Echelon Vol. 2 (2021), donnant de la visibilité à des artistes moins connus.
Son style conjugue horrorcore, cloud rap, rap absurde et mélodique, avec une palette stylistique particulièrement étendue. Vald maîtrise un large spectre de flows, du parlé posé au débit accéléré, et intègre régulièrement l’autotune dans une esthétique sombre et torturée. Ses textes mêlent humour noir, références à la culture populaire, absurde et introspection désenchantée, tous ses albums étant produits en quasi-exclusivité par le beatmaker Seezy, avec qui il entretient une complémentarité artistique centrale.

Il a également publié l’album en collaboration avec Heuss l’Enfoiré, Horizon Vertical (2020). V est nommé aux NRJ Music Awards 2022 dans la catégorie Clip Francophone de l’année pour le titre « Péon » avec Orelsan. Vald assure la tournée des Zéniths et se produit à l’Accor Arena à Paris.

He built his own home studio and self-released his first free mixtapes in 2012 (NQNTMQMQMB, Cours de rattrapage). Spotted by Tunisiano, he signed to Mezoued Records for his two EPs NQNT (2014) and NQNT 2 (2015), the latter reaching number one in French digital weekly sales. In 2019 he founded his own independent label, Echelon Music, under which he released the compilations Echelon Vol. 1 (2019) and Echelon Vol. 2 (2021), spotlighting lesser-known artists.
His style combines horrorcore, cloud rap, absurdist and melodic rap, with an unusually broad stylistic range. Vald commands a wide spectrum of flows, from measured delivery to high-speed rap, and regularly incorporates autotune into a dark and troubled aesthetic. His lyrics blend dark humour, pop culture references, absurdity and disenchanted introspection, with virtually all his albums produced by beatmaker Seezy, with whom he has developed a central artistic partnership.
