Dès six ans, elle étudie le piano classique et la flûte à l’école Barnamúsíkskóli de Reykjavík. Après un récital scolaire où elle interprète « I Love to Love » de Tina Charles, l’enregistrement est diffusé à la radio nationale RÚV, ce qui lui vaut un contrat avec le label Fálkinn. Son premier disque éponyme, considéré comme une œuvre de jeunesse, paraît en Islande en décembre 1977.
