SebastiAn, de son vrai nom Sébastien Akchoté-Božović, est un producteur, compositeur, DJ et musicien français né le 3 février 1981 à Boulogne-Billancourt. Élevé entre Paris et Belgrade, il est l’une des figures du label Ed Banger Records, associé à la scène French Touch et à l’electro house. Révélé par des remixes pour Daft Punk ou Kavinsky, il s’est imposé aussi bien comme artiste solo, avec l’album Total (2011), que comme producteur recherché, ayant notamment travaillé avec Frank Ocean, Charlotte Gainsbourg ou Yves Saint Laurent.
Né à Boulogne-Billancourt de parents d’origine serbe, SebastiAn grandit entre Paris et Belgrade. En 1996, il collabore avec le musicien Jean-Louis Costes sur l’album Nik Ta Race, avant de découvrir le DJing à l’écoute de Homework de Daft Punk, une révélation qui oriente durablement sa trajectoire. Après une incursion dans le hip-hop, il entre en contact avec Ed Banger Records en 2005 ; le fondateur du label, Pedro Winter, lui propose de produire un premier EP, Smoking Kills (?), suivi la même année du single H.A.L./Time Period, puis en 2006 de l’EP Ross Ross Ross. Il signe dans la foulée plusieurs remixes remarqués, notamment pour Daft Punk (Human After All), Cut Copy, Mylo ou Kavinsky (Testarossa Autodrive). En 2007, le réalisateur Quentin Dupieux lui offre un rôle dans le film Steak, dont il coproduit également la bande originale.
La musique de SebastiAn s’inscrit dans les registres de l’electro house, de la house et de l’expérimental, avec une approche volontiers glitch et une esthétique pop futuriste puisant dans des références rétro. Ses productions oscillent entre morceaux de club énergiques et pièces plus ambitieuses, à l’image de Threnody, titre de treize minutes hommage au compositeur polonais Krzysztof Penderecki publié en 2010. Comme compositeur et producteur pour d’autres artistes, il déploie une palette plus large, entre pop, électronique et musique de film, au service d’univers aussi variés que ceux de Charlotte Gainsbourg, Philippe Katerine, Frank Ocean ou Woodkid. Il revendique l’influence déterminante de Daft Punk dans sa découverte de la musique électronique.
SebastiAn publie son premier album studio, Total, le 30 mai 2011 chez Ed Banger Records et Because Music. Composé de 22 titres dont Embody, C.T.F.O. (avec M.I.A.) et Love in Motion (avec Mayer Hawthorne), l’album est suivi en 2012 par The EP Collection. À partir de 2013, il se consacre davantage à la production pour d’autres artistes, composant et produisant notamment pour Charlotte Gainsbourg, Philippe Katerine, Kavinsky, Frank Ocean, Uffie ou Woodkid, ainsi que des bandes originales, dont celle du film Notre jour viendra de Romain Gavras (2010). Il publie un second album solo, Thirst, le 8 novembre 2019, marquant son retour sur la scène musicale française après plusieurs années consacrées à la production. Il collabore par ailleurs avec la maison Yves Saint Laurent, dont les musiques de défilés sont mises en ligne sur les plateformes de streaming en juillet 2021 ; la même année, il siège au jury du Festival du cinéma américain de Deauville, présidé par Charlotte Gainsbourg.

SebastiAn’s music falls within electro house, house and experimental registers, with a glitch-leaning approach and a futuristic pop aesthetic drawing on retro references. His productions range from energetic club tracks to more ambitious pieces, such as Threnody, a thirteen-minute tribute to Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki released in 2010. As a composer and producer for other artists, he displays a broader palette spanning pop, electronic music and film scoring, working across the distinct worlds of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Philippe Katerine, Frank Ocean and Woodkid. He has cited Daft Punk as a decisive influence in his discovery of electronic music.
SebastiAn released his debut studio album, Total, on 30 May 2011 through Ed Banger Records and Because Music. Made up of 22 tracks including Embody, C.T.F.O. (with M.I.A.) and Love in Motion (with Mayer Hawthorne), the album was followed in 2012 by The EP Collection.
