Dooz Kawa, de son vrai nom Frank Latreille-Ladoux, était un rappeur et auteur-compositeur français né le 8 janvier 1980 à Chartres, décédé le 19 décembre 2025 à Marseille à l’âge de 45 ans. Qualifié par Le Figaro en 2019 de « plume du rap français », Dooz Kawa s’est imposé comme l’une des figures les plus singulières et respectées du rap underground francophone, reconnu pour une poésie sophistiquée, des univers sonores hybrides et un rapport au monde profondément humaniste.
Son nom de scène, Dooz Kawa, est l’anagramme de « 12 K.O. ». Fils d’un militaire, il découvre à douze ans le rap underground franco-américain dans les caves de garnisons militaires en Allemagne, puis se nourrit des musiques d’Europe de l’Est dans les anciennes casernes reconverties en camps de réfugiés. À seize ans, il s’installe à Strasbourg et compose ses premiers morceaux. Il cofonde le collectif T-Kaï Cee avec lequel il se produit dans les festivals alsaciens (La Laiterie avec Psy4 de la Rime, Summer Session avec Killa Kela). En 2006, il rencontre le guitariste manouche Biréli Lagrène, figure mondiale du genre, qui devient un collaborateur décisif. En 2007, il est invité à le rejoindre sur scène au Cheval Blanc à Schiltigheim. Il collabore également avec les guitaristes manouches Mandino Reinhardt et Mito Loeffler, ainsi qu’avec les producteurs Al’Tarba, DJ Click (UHT°) et Kayo. En 2016, Dooz Kawa devient le cinquième rappeur invité à donner une conférence à l’École normale supérieure, lors du séminaire « La plume et le bitume », dans la lignée de Vîrus, Lino, Ali et Kohndo. En 2022, il fonde l’association Étoiles du Sol pour la prévention des violences dans l’enfance. Sa disparition, annoncée le 29 décembre 2025 par Modulor Records, suscite de nombreux hommages dans l’ensemble du milieu underground francophone.
Son style se définit par une écriture ciselée, mélancolique et poétique, nourrie d’influences manouches, balkaniques, jazz et hip-hop old school. Ses productions, organiques et travaillées, laissent respirer le texte : pas de surenchère sonore, mais un soin constant de l’arrangement au service du verbe. Dooz Kawa s’inscrit dans la lignée des grands lyricistes du rap français, d’Akhenaton à Oxmo Puccino, tout en traçant une voix absolument personnelle. In 2006 he met gypsy guitar prodigy Biréli Lagrène, whose influence would prove decisive, and in 2007 was invited to join him on stage in Schiltigheim. In 2016 Dooz Kawa became the fifth rapper invited to lecture at the École normale supérieure, at a seminar titled "La plume et le bitume", following Vîrus, Lino, Ali and Kohndo. In 2022 he founded the association Étoiles du Sol for the prevention of childhood violence. His death, announced on 29 December 2025 by Modulor Records, prompted widespread tributes from across the francophone underground.
